ANNUAL TESTING

Our inspection process is designed to help facilities meet the requirements of JCAHO. The testing procedure includes:

  • Testing flow capability of every medical gas outlet
  • Simulating alarm triggers to test master alarm panels
  • Inspecting medical gas sources of supply
  • Testing zonal pressure of system to determine condition of piping seal
  • Testing particulate filter to determine contamination levels

Upon completion of this process a report will be created and results will be forwarded to the client.

SYSTEMS DESIGN CONSULTATION

Our highly knowledgeable staff will perform a review of design schematics for medical gas systems in any facility. After all required documents are received, they will be reviewed by our personnel. From this review, a comprehensive report will be developed and created. This report will detail any code violations as well as recommendations to enhance the overall safety and functionality of the medical gas system. We will also create completed construction documents if requested by the architect and/or owners. The goal of this process is to ensure the safety of the facility design and improve efficiency for the end medical gas system.

This process can also be combined with our final certification testing service, wherein a technician from our staff will test the final medical gas system.

FINAL CERTIFICATION TESTING

We preform all the necessary testing that is required for the purpose of certification. The goal of these procedures is to ensure safety and compliance with current regulations. These tests include:

  • Standing Pressure Test
  • Cross-Connection Test
  • Valve Test
  • Alarm Test
  • Piping Purge Test
  • Piping Particulate Test
  • Piping Purity Test
  • Final Tie-In Test
  • Operational Pressure Test
  • Medical Gas Concentration Test
  • Medical Air Purity Test (Compressor System)
  • Labeling
  • Source Equipment Verification

When the testing is completed, a final report containing the "Letter of Certification" will be issued to the hospital or contractor. If you have any questions or would like further information about the tests we perform, please contact us.

SYSTEMS EVALUATION/STANDARDS COMPLIANCE REVIEW

This service is typically found to hold significant value for medical facilities considering renovation plans. This service involves our staff touring and evaluating the medical gas systems of your facility with the renovation plans in mind. This inspection is followed by a detailed report complete with schematics outlining areas of concern and recommendations based on the current medical gas standards.

On-site inspection involves the evaluation of all medical gas system components. This includes:

  • Examination of each medical gas zone for standard compliance as to zone valve location, identification, zone valve type, piping size, type, brazing, and labeling.
  • Inspection of medical gas outlets within each zone for compliance and one set of each style outlet will be tested for flow capability.
  • Inspection of each medical gas alarm panel for compliance with standard as to location, circuitry, identification, and alarm conditions annunciation.
  • Examination of all medical gas sources of supply will be checked in regard to the current standard.

After the inspection, a comprehensive report will be created and will detail all system deficiencies as well as recommendations for corrective actions. This will also include a schematic diagram highlighting the key points in the report

DRAWING AND SPECIFICATION REVIEW

Our personnel will review final construction drawings and specifications to ensure code compliance. Suggestions will be made, where necessary, for design or installation changes. These recommendations are provided to enhance the safety and operational capabilities of the system. All of these suggestions will be detailed in a report that will be sent to the client.

MEDICAL GAS SAMPLING

To ensure the safety and compliance of the current system, Medical Gas Systems, Inc. has the capability to draw samples and test them for purity. These tests include:

  • High Pressure Gas Purity Sampling
    • In this procedure, a sample of gas is drawn from the terminal unit. Samples of the gas are drawn in test cylinder for purity analysis to be performed by an analyzing lab. Moisture is also checked by passing the test gas through a test media at the lab. After analysis, the particulate content of the gas can be calculated and results will be reported.

  • Medical Gas Purity Sampling
    • A sample of each gas is drawn from the terminal unit that is furthest from the source. The samples of each gas are drawn into test cylinder for purity analysis to be completed by a testing lab. Dew point and halogenated solvent tubes are used for transport of the gases. The labratory, TRI Air Testing, Inc., performs the gas analysis to the requirements of Table 5.1.12.3.8 of the NFPA 99 (2002) standard.

  • Fire Department Breathing Air Purity Sampling
    • Our company is pleased to offer this quarterly test to your department as our own president, Robert Kroening, was a fire fighter for 23 years. This has arisen after the NFPA released a standard in April 2003 titled "Standard on Breathing Air Quality for Fire and Emergency Services Respiratory Protection." It is designed to ensure the quality of the air fire fighters breathe from their SCBA units. We have two methods to draw a breathing air sample which include:

1. Sending your department a test kit allowing your personnel to take an air sample by following our step by step instructions. The test kit is then sent back to our office to be analyzed and results will be reported to you for your records.

2. A technician from our staff can visit your station to draw the sample for you.
